...grafitti poses a real problem for me. I've seen really nice and clever ones...and they always seem more important than the buildings and walls they supposedly disfigure. Most of it seems done for the sake of doing it, but then great big art movements are built around that...so it's okay. I guess what bothers me about it is that I make things with my hands...and I resent a surface that I finish being signed by someone else...especially if it's a lovingly rendered or well designed building...but there's something about it...something about it's arrogance that I like...artists dream of making an impression, leaving a footprint...grafitti artists go out and do it...take or leave it, like it or not. I guess I like the idea more than the reality...most of the time. But if I could snap my fingers and make all grafitti go away, I wouldn't. I'd make most buildings go away. I enjoyed the artwrok at that site. --------------------- |
