...by any fair assessment Fidel Castro has been the outstanding leader of the 20th century. If you consider where he started from, child of privilege who could have continued in the path of the well-to-do middle class he came from...a brilliant student, an artist, a lawyer...who became a rebel leader, jailed once and exiled to Mexico, conducting the most far fetched, romantic, impossible guerilla uprising since George Washington led his rag tag civilian army...who went on to be the most dynamic leader the world has seen, scaring the shit out of successive American presidents...sleeping on a hammock in Central Park....staying at the Theresa Hotel in Harlem because the rest of New York was segregated...fending off one attack after another from America, including an economic embargo that the Cuban people have rallied against for the better part of 40 years...the list goes on and on. When these brats are all forgotten Fidel will live on and his achievements will border on legend, inspiring younger people who have not a goddamned human being to look up to in this greasy age.
