>Since you proclaim that you're only an Assyrian, can you tell me how would you preserve your heritage through your children if they decide to marry non-Assyrians forget about what religion that person may be??? ......Hi Nineve, I have no idea what your question has to do with my initial post but here goes. It all depends on what you mean when you say heritage. If you're refering to Christian heritage then it's safe and sound in the Christian nations of the west we have fled to. If however you actually are a legitimate Assyrian then you should ignore the religions and sects of our other people and focus on the true Assyrian heritage that binds us. A couple of examples should suffice. a. The Kurds celebrate Kha B'Neesan on March 21st - the Spring Equinox - much like our ancient ancestors did, unlike us they didn't adopt the Roman calendar. b. The Shiites still celebrate the weeping for Tammuz festival when they commemorate the descent of Ali to the netherworld. c. The Iraqi women in the Middle East still wear the veil (hajab) first introduced as law by the ancient Assyrians and used to symbolise our Goddess Ishtar's purity. Explains why brides wear white and a veil as well as the dance of the 7 veils amongest othere things. So you see each of our disparate groups has maintained some element of our ancient ancestors up to this very day. Together we are truly the descendants of the ancient Assyrians. > >I have heard that you're engaged ...Congratulations...Is your fiancee Assyrian??? > ......That depends on exactly what YOU are saying when YOU say the word Assyrian. Is the term used to exclusively denote a religous sect or does it represent the descendants of the ancient Assyrians and denotes their shared but evolved heritage? By the way she's Maronite and Catholic. >You see you may not care about religion and you can claim all you want that you're an Assyrian but if you don't pass on your heritage to your children what are you going to have to show for as your legacy??? ......My children will be tolerant and accepting of all our people in the Middle East of all sects and of course religions. They will work to be a legacy to the people of Iraq who's ancestry we all share. > >If your daughters and sons decide to marry let's say muslims knowing that any one who marries a muslim (male or female) the children are automatically muslims would you care at all??? ......They'd marry someone who would understand what religion truly is and not get into this game of football and "who do you barrack for?" mentality that you have turned it into. > >You and others who are claiming that they are only Assyrians aren't better than those who are claiming that they are Assyrian-Christians,you only can really boast that you're an Assyrian and that you have preserved your heritage when you transfer that Assyrian heritage to your offspring until then let those who want to deal, with what they think is violation of their honor, as they see fit and you deal with what you see fit for yourself. .......We've never stated that we're better than anyone else. What we've stated is that we don't want ignorant Christian Assyrians - who claim that Christians are the only idigenous people in Iraq - calling down an air strike on their fellow Christians. Period. --------------------- |
