I don't quite understand what precedent in the region the USA is looking to when pushing Iraq into privatizing its oil industry. Among many missteps, no doubt... But at the end of the day, anyone with an understanding of Iraqi history (in particular) and the region in general knows that privatization of this commodity just doesn't fly.
