Check the KBSV archives. I did an entire show based on research from Zarcha Vastoka, (A Russian newspaper) who chronicled this movement's activities. The Assyrian intellectuals, under the leadership of Freidun Attouraya, consisted of Farid's grandfather and other intellectual Assyrians who wanted Russian to repatriate the Assyrians back to their homelands. Guess who betrayed this inetellectual Assyrian group? You guessed it! Mar Benyamin Shummon, who wrote to the Russian vice-consul to warn him that these Assyrian intellectuals are a bunch of hoodlums who mean to bring harm to Russia. He wrote, and I quote: "We do not want an Assyrian homeland at this time." The Assyrians then called Freidun Attouraya a spy and handed him over to the Russians. A few days later, Freidun Attouraya was arrested and later hanged in a Russian jail. But before his death, he wrote an essay called, "My Spy Case" where he named all his Assyrian betrayers and called them British and French puppets, and even mapped their connection to the British and French government, in particular, outlining the Archbishop of Canterbury's design for the betrayal of the Assyrians. --------------------- |
