..it isn't war that's the problem. War is like fire....if you start it yourself there's a good chance you'll get burned. Wars never start by themselves. People start them and it looks like the only real reason we have left now for wars is greed. It was greed that eyed the oil rich lands of the Ottoman Turks...greed had Hitler looking for oil... ..but there's another form of greed as well...it surfaced for the first time I can think of when newspaper owners teamed up with military suppliers to play on the fears of settlers...people were driven to near panic at the thought of an Indian uprising...newspapers sold...rifles and bullets were ordered and of course, new lands were opened up for settlement. ..In our own time we've sat passively by while the war-mongers have made war one of the greatest finanacial booms...the billions upon billions of dollars spent on Iraq weren't "wasted"...hell no...Halliburton and any number of other companies are damn glad they benefitted as they did...where and how else could they have made such gobs of money so fast and be THANKED? ...and, isn't it true that if the millionaire's get richer...we get richer too? All we have to do for this kind of prosperity is be willing to send our children and go ourselves, to war...but then don't we send our children and go ourselves into the labor force? Isn't THAT dangerous as well? Not just for what you might suffer in the way of accident or industrial disease but also because of what this enviable American lifestyle does to your soul...to your humanity? ..we've agreed to define "life" as how many things you can buy...if we have to sell ourselves and our children to get those things...so be it. ...we have met the enemy, long ago...and it is US. --------------------- |
