I was introduced to it a couple of years ago. The organization is very secretive. It is considered a religion because it is faith-based. Although, it (the organization as a whole) considers itself a technology of the mind. Some of the material is interesting in a sci-fi sort of way. But in the end it is all suggestive. It seems to me that the doctrine of Scientology is a hodge-podge of all the other philosophies and theories of others. The only catch is that they suggest the theories to be "true" and make you reread and reread the text until you understand it. Pros: 1. It looks at a person as a "being" in the universe, almost as a God. 2. Some of the stuff is a pretty cool read. Kind of Sci-Fi'ish. 3. They are violently opposed to psychological medication. This, to a degree I agree with. 4. Many of the theories have a very interesting perspective. Cons: 1. Very strange and secretive. Everything you say and do while there, is under a microscope. 2. Too suggestive and repetitive. 3. Too expensive --------------------- |
