Hi Dalale, I was actually in the British Museum all day today. Got to see the collosal human headed winged bulls symbolic of our ancient ancestors. One damaged head of a human headed winged bull was taken from the palace of Ashurhaddon. It was the first time I'd seen it. But by far the most rewarding pieces were the cuneiform tablets displayed in the order; The Flood Epic, The The Creation Epic & the Descent of Ishtar Myth. In 3 small cuneiform tablets the origins of Western civilisation lay. In the Flood Epic, aka the Epic of Gilgamesh we have been given the Zodiac, the Kaballah and mysticism, to name just a few. In the Creation Epic we are informed of the origin of philosophy, astronomy/astrology and mathematics. The descent of Ishtar meanwhile went on to give us the concept of marriage, the story of the seasons, Easter(Ishtar) and Christmas, April Fools Day, New Year's day, the dance of the 7 veils and much more. It's amazing you quoted Layard at a time when I get to see all that he stole from our people while Iraq was under Ottoman rule. I suppose it's best that the pieces are in the British Museum rather than being looted by U.S. inspired forces in Iraq. --------------------- |
