Our people in the Middle East were all of ancient and modern Mesopotamian descent and upon being influenced by this wave of Nationilsm sweeping Europe each religous group and sect decided to adopt one of the numerous identities of their ancestors. The Sunni and Shiite went for the Arab identity which was more recent and more logical seeing as how they spokje Arab. We on the other hand influenced by the discovery of Nineveh in 1850s decided to adopt the ancient Assyrian identity and afix it to our modern day church.
