I know I'm late in the thread, but since I haven't read the responses yet, that's fine... As far as I am concerned, we are most definitely not a nationality. Nationality implies nation. Nation implies borders, government, and most important, cultural institutions. However, that being said, if someone tells me that they are a member of the "Cherokee Nation", I think they are referring to the ethnicity of the Cherokee American-Indians, and not the nation that existed before whitie came and destroyed the natives...or both? I agree that we are an ethnicity before a nation. ................................./ Emil wrote: >Nationality? What's all this talk about Assyrians being a "nationality"? I'm confused. (Or as my favorite sculptor would say "cuntfused". Oops, I swore. I'm going to hell.) How could we be a nationality if we don't have a nation? >Help me here, Maggie, Farid, Jeff, and others- except Dalale, please!!! Aren't we an "ethnicity"? >In laymen's terms, please. It takes a long time for me to absorb this stuff. Thanks. --------------------- |
