Don't think I didn't shed many a tear when I heard. ...I was sort of sad too...mostly for Helen's sake...that great Lady died waiting on her asshole of a brother, John Nimrod, to "allow" Chicago to install the monument she believed in so much she gave $120,000 of HER money towards its completion...but I never cried over it...because I know something no one else does: that our Queen watches over us yet and the the BEST thing that could have happened was exactly what did....that these people and this attitude and this false pride that detsroys everything of meaning that is Assyrian for the sake of the nonsense of this kind of Christianity, HAD to be exposed...even at such a price. This thing ain't over...not by a long shot. The rest of us are so used to this sort of outrage that it doesn't move us all that much...but, if there IS to be any meaning to being Assyrian in the modern era, then this shamefull episode will mark a turning point...when the more judicious among us, those we will NEED if we are to go anywhere... will look back and see WHY she had to lead us to an entirely different path. In whatever obscure place she is installed...THAT will be a pilgrimage worth the trip...just to see our lowest point EVER! And those who make it will only do so if they know they won't ever let us sink that low again. Nimrod MADE our day for us...we just don't see it yet. note: Do yourselves a favor and see the six part series by PBS titled, "Eyes On The Prize", the story of the Civil Rights Movement. Imagine being able to see actual footage of the Civil War, including LIncoln,Grant, Davis and the men and women who lived and fought and died...imagine being able to view the Punic wars...or Caesar's campaign in Gaul...or Ashurbanipal in any day of his reign. Through our technology we have it in our power to record what can be watched 1000 years from now...so look and see what America did...what our Constitution allowed us to do PEACEFULLY...though not without violence...the tremendous sea change that took place demonstration by demonstration..it has to be one of the most inspiring moments in history...and we can see ACTUAL footage of it. I especially enjoyed James Farmer of SNCC saying to saddened and outraged crowd at yet another funeral of a slain Black member of the Movement: "If we are not allowed to sit at the table, then let's knock the fucking legs out from under it"...in THAT context...ain't that a beautiful thing? --------------------- |
