Perhaps you people haven't heard about how many people have been incarcerated wrongly, often for long periods of time, without being charged, during this so called "war on terrorism." Perhaps you haven't heard about the German national who was abducted, incarcerated, flown to another country where he could be tortured, then eventually let go somewhere in the mountains of Albania. Or Maybe you didn't hear about the more recent example of a Canadian citizen who was wrongfully incarcerated, deported to Syria, tortured, then recently found completely innocent, (he was on NPR yesterday speaking about his devestated life). Perhaps you think it's okay to torture innocent people because you think that it will save even more lives. Perhaps you are unaware that torture often elicits false confessions just to stop the torture, which leads to faulty intelligence, if not wrongful convictions, and even executions. Perhaps you never learned about the Salem Witch Trials, or the Spanish Inquisition. Or perhaps you just haven't really thought about it. --------------------- |
