See, that's where I differ. I agree with you that the identity has cracked and no amount of trying to fix it will it come together.... but for a charismatic leader or a group of them that can inspire some sort of purpose within these people. I think it is possible, but it isn't straightforward and it may well be the one whose mother they are calling whore that might be the one. One thing is for sure is Assyrians can't reach that point unless they redefine their identity outside of religious contexts. There's no reason to give it up completely, but as I have said before, it can't be an "us, Christian; them, Muslim" definition of identity.
