>But leadership is what we lack. ...I don't think so. People have to be "leadable"...there has to be a place they want to go to...something they want to accomplish. We all assume that it's just the lack of a leader...but in truth, the more effective a leader the MORE the resistance....it's as if people don't really want to leave the place they are...not existentially anyway. ...We have been born and bred with a snootful of assumptions about "being Assyrian". How many more centuries will it take before we realize that our fondest illusions need to be brutally challenged and examined if we don't want to keep pouring our dwindling resources down the same rat hole? There is obviously something very odd and dysfunctional in "being Assyrian"...at least in the way we've been taught to define it...but you can't even begin to ask questions without your mother being called a whore. What are people afraid of? When you're that firghtened to look in a mirror it must be because you think you'll see something really ugly there...and that could be it. "Being Assyrian" is nine-tenths about being racist, homophobic, bigoted and gloriously ignorant of anything besides Syriac manuscripts and what is "owed to us"...the remaining one-tenth has to do with waiting for a jew god to take us to a jew heaven. Where CAN you lead such people? Can a reputable and able climbing guide for an expedition up Mt. Everst really be found who would agree to lead a group of people refusing to be tied together...to cooperate...who insisted on wearing shorts, or dresses...who wanted to carry a Smaovar with them...who had no previous experience in climbing mountains but believed Jesus would get them through it? We have to begin at the beginning...at the place where we first heard all this stuff to begin with...you have to risk losing it all, sometimes, to find anything of real value. There are no "people" to lead....the failure starts there. --------------------- |
