After a game of chess yesterday, a new acquaintence of mine and I were speaking politics. He said "The only way to deal with Islamic extremism is to beat them at their own game. The day after 9/11, we should have bombed Mecca."

Mind you, I was beginning to be impressed by this person's intellect, as he had impressed me on several occasions with other, non-political topics.

So, I responded by saying, "That was probably the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard." He asked me why, and I continued: "You cannot blame Islam for 9/11, rather you have to blame American foreign policy for the last 4 decades whenever there is a 'terrorist' attach. Also, bear in mind that Osama Bin Laden in particular (like most others whom we demonize) was funded and trained by the CIA to fight the Russians not so long ago."

He realized his error, and took back his statement. But my question to you folks is..."How many Americans share his original (and crazy) sentiment?" Also, "Will they ever hear a calm, sane voice of reason like mine which simply states the historical facts and doesn't cloud it with religion-insanity or jingoistic-insanity?" And I forgot to mention that this person is not religious, nor does he identify with Christianity. So the forces that be have managed to even convince a non-religious.nut to perceive Muslims as hateful terrorist extremists.

Your thoughts?

>They even want to set up a fund for his family, so upset and Christian are they. What is it about being a casualty of war that merits no mention? When America loses soldiers due to "friendly fire"...or some other incident of war...they don`t treat them like they were expendable..they don`t go to great lengths to ignore their deaths and sacrifice...they mention them and honor them...regardless of how they died for indeed EVERY American is dear to America.

>So what if Magdolin Younan`s two murdered babies...murdered by American Christians, were "casualties of war". Why can`t they be mentioned...why can no one grieve publicly for them...why are their names treated like atomic waste by Christian sites..posing as Assyrians?
>
>I`ll tell you why...because Christians are ass kissing America big time. They don`t dare mention one of their`s who is killed by their Christian overlords for fear it might not look good.
>
>Clearly then, the issue is not the number, or the "tragedy" of a wasted Christian life...they haven`t even said a word about the over 27,000 Christian children starved to death by this "Savior" of their`s. They aren`t even really concerned for Alan or all the others who`ve ben killed for being informants...they want Muslims KILLED...especially Assyrian ones.
>
>Had Alan been a Muslim providing any service to an American..he would have been shot dead just as quick.
>
>This war and Vietnam are nothing like wars we`ve had before. These are not confrontations between armies out in a field somewhere...there is no "front"...there is no uniformed combatant enemy...there are only citizens...civilians...parents and children fighting to defend their country from attack by vastly superior forces all carrying WMDs in their hip pockets.
>
>In this sort of "war" and moreso in Iraq even than in Vietnam, there is no place for "humanitarians" who are of the SAME nationality as the invading marrauders. In Iraq the American media is locked up behind closed doors..which is EXACTLY as Bush wants it...without massive American millitary protection no reporter dares venture out anywhere and if you report the news without putting a Bush spin on it...not only will you NOT receive protection, you just might get "friendly fired to death" by your own soldiers. Those who go out on their own, who think they`re covering the Normandy Invasion, are in for huge surprises.
>
>This is not the time nor place for "sympathetic" or even neutral reporters to be poking recorders in people`s faces and asking for how they felt when their kids were blown up...for the "liberal" media back home and those Americans who are "troubled" by what they see in Iraq...there can be no "sympathetic" American who is REALLY sympathetic who is not in Washington, instead of Fallujah...trying to wake Congress and the American people to the war being waged against our CONSTITUTION...that`s the REAL story for Americans..let Al Jazeera do human interest stories from Iraq.
