I'm NOT picking on Grairs, 'cause I don't know them, BUT, there's something wrong with the overall picture of Assyrian youth today and the way they think, or DON'T think. Considering that they get their information from half truths from their churches and priests, and quick internet searches, they think they've got the WHOLE TRUTH! Whenever we discuss something here, the Beth people do quick searches through WIKIPEDIA and counter our discussions with their own version. Doesn't that tell you something? Well it should! If we get our information from Wikipedia, then we are too lazy to take the time and do a thorough search of the facts, and combine other sources to reach proper conclusions. For example: Not long ago I wrote a post about some friends of mine in L.A. who once told me they were Cajun, but their origins were Accadian, which means they are Assyrians. I didn't believe them because I had never seen Akkadian spelled ACCADIAN. Well they went into this long explanation about how their ancestors migrated to France umpteen years ago and became French and thus the spelling! The next day, someone on Beth did a Wilipedia search and wrote that the word Accadian comes from the word Arcadia a colony established in Louisiana. If that's the case, then where did the word Arcadia come from? Was it invented all of a sudden out of the blue sky, or is there a rational explanation? Could it be that that dialects can create certain words that would obscure the original word? Well, it doesn't occur to those that come up with such quick fixes and explanations for EVERYTHING! To them, it's more feasible that Wikipedia will go back as far as France to explain the word "Arcadia". No need for linguistic or etymological explorations, as well as tracing these words all the way back to where the French came from and the origin of their language. If it's good enough for Wikipedia, it's good enough for them! --------------------- |
