qasrani, the issue is not what did the Chaldean community 'do to Sinan'...I am guessing he was trying to make a point about how separatist the community is. Chaldeans are just as sectarian as some Muslims who only identify w/ Sunnis or w/ Shiites. It was more a philosophical point and one that seeks to look at identity in more broad terms vs in very parochial terms. I don't know Sinan personally, but I have heard wonderful things about him, and like you, he is close friends w/ two good friends of mine. I am interested in reading a writer like him vs one's who wants to wall us into a small of box of very specific prescribed ideas of who we are, how we should live, w/ whom we can associate, and even how we identify ourselves. nayj --------------------- |
