Donny George is a great man. Stayed in Iraq and fought and I don't mean militarily. He fought for his culture and history. I attended his conference at the University of Chicago when he came to speak about the destruction of the Iraqi museum. He mentioned that the day after Uncle Bush's "Shock and Awe" took place, a well-organized group of people broke into the museum and stole priceless pieces skipping over the replicas. They seemed to know the authenticity of the ones displayed. Some of the other larger (unmovable) authentic pieces were completely destroyed. Funny thing..he also said that most of the artifacts were returned weeks later to the museum by local Iraqis (notice how I didn't say Assyrians). The Iraqi's saw the historical value in the museum and stole the pieces before the looters can steal them for the black market. Though the priceless pieces cannot be returned or restored. What better to try to fill their void than with your sculptures? Farid, are you in California? Because I can see your ego from Chicago. :) --------------------- |
