Dear Hawkwind/Motorhead fan, Thanks for your email, but I don't have time to write the entire history of how Lemmy went from Hawkwind to Motorhead and post it on this forum. I'm sure you can do a search on Lemmy on the internet and gather your info. and then post it yourself, if you'd like. He's full of himself, so I'm sure you'll find plenty on him. I will briefly tell you that Lemmy was one of the original founding members of the band "Hawkwind". You can search under his real name, Ian Kilmeister. He was later nicknamed Lemmy because when he was a starving artist, he would constantly say, "lemmy a quid", (lend me a quid). After he was kicked out of Hawkwind due to not being able to tour with the band, (for false charges) he and Phil Taylor, (Philthy Animal) and Fast Eddie started Motorhead. Motorhead won a Grammy this year, so I'm sure you can find all sorts of info on the band. YOu can also do a search on Pink Fairies, because Motorhead was formed from former members of the Pink Fairies and Hawkwind. Phil Taylor and Mic Farren, (formerly of Pink Fairies and MC5) gigged together before Motorhead was formed. Mic Farren lives in Hollywood now, and I see him from time to time, when I'm in L.A. He has made quite a reputation for himself as a Rock critic. He's writing a book on Elvis, (maybe it's finished by now) and writes for the L.A. Weekly. Andy, (of Pink Fairies) and his wife Helga are still my best friends, so yes I'm close to them and we talk everyday. I'm still close to Nik Turner also, he lives in Wales on a farm with no electricity and between him and his wife they have 8 kids. Phil Taylor and I are still close friends too, he lives in Hollywood. BUT I don't talk to Lemmy, except a casual hello when I see him. He's still in his Nazi mode, YOu know, the boots and swatstika revelations. Besides, I'll never forgive him for ditching the best drummer the universe has ever had, (Phil Taylor) who if it weren't for him Motorhead wouldn't have happened. I'm also close to Allen Powell, (former Hawkwind drummer). He's living in San Francisco now. Allen won an emmy a few years ago for Pretty Woman. He did the track for Robert Palmer on that album. I can only tell you that you won't meet better human beings on this planet than Andy, Phil, Allen, and Nik. Andy and Mic Farren still gig together in L.A. They formed the DEVIANTS band a few years ago, and before that the Warsaw Pact. They do occasional tours in Europe and Japan. Nik Turner is no longer in Hawkwind. He went on his own a few years back and has some of the original band members with him still. Happy searching!!! --------------------- |
