...I'm sorry...no one get a pass for being "Assyrian". Bad taste and shlock know no boundaries, neither should they be countenanced in the name of "national" anything. The cover to her "book" is atrocious, cheesy, gory, comical and just about all the worst things you could say. An angel drenched in blood lifting a child also drenched in blood from what looks like a bowl of blood might make the foolish cheer but it makes the judicious greive.

Then comes a "review" by a "jornalist"...(you have to use a LOT of quotation marks with these people)...who must have left any objectivity as a "journalist" at the door...with this...

The Crimson Field Book Cover Revealed

...as in a "Book of Revelations"?

(ZNDA: Washington)  The book cover of one of the most anticipated historical novels is finally revealed with the release of this edition of Zinda Magazine.

..it is not "widely" anticipated...it is not "historical"...and Zinda is NOT a "magazine".

The cover was designed by Mr. David Daryawish, winner of the "The Crimson Field International Book Cover Contest" in July 2005 (click here).

...one can only shudder at the thought of the rest of the "international" field and what they must have come up with.

Ms. Rosie Malek-Yonan's The Crimson Field is due out later this month.  This year's attendees to the Assyrian National Convention in Boston will be able to hear Ms. Malek-Yonan reading excerpts from her book at the Arts and Literature seminar on Saturday, 3 September.

..her book is neither art nor literature...it is propaganda and the cover is in the worst style of Chinese poster art.

Assyrian-Swedish journalist, Nuri Kino, writes about The Crimson Field:  "It's literature at its best."

...the man has obviously done little reading.

He continues: "I’m almost always skeptical when a storyteller or writer leaves little to one’s own imagination by making very clear and bold statements. But that is not the case with Malek-Yonan.

...the book can hardly be more subtle than the bloody cover.

In The Crimson Field it’s important for the reader to be brought along when a soul is extorted from a slaughtered body and let the author tell us to look down at the earthly body, in order to understand the feelings of a mother who is driven from her homeland and forced to leave her only child.

...give it a rest...you are torturing THIS body with your purple prose...you people still behave as if no one has suffered these things BUT Rosie-Malek, in her HEAD!...I find it odd that the same person weeping buckets and bloody covers too...someone who blithely urges her new country to perpetrate some of the most heinous and criminal acts against entirley innocent mothers and children of her OLD country can be anything but a propaganda whore as she weeps for one and cheers for the other.

Rosie Malek-Yonan’s liquid and lyrical style of writing is a perfect blend of long and short phrases each a poem in itself.

...bad writing 101 graduate.

The cadences of a concert opera are evident in her writing. A concert you don’t want to leave. Colorful, her writing jars all five senses. The reader smells and touches what her characters experience. The reader sees, feels and tastes what the characters do."

...I smell something distinct as well. There's no way anyone is going to encourage me to accept whatever shlock we put out as "necessary" or "the best' we can do. It is because of these abysmally low standards in EVERYTHING but tea that we've sunk this low. It's time to kick everyone's ass into higher gear. Enough of making love to our zits!
