...I'm gonna piss Rosie's family off...I know that. But there's something more important at stake here. I have no doubt if we ever produced a Woody Allen who poked delicious fun at his own kind...we'd ban and kill him too. This pushing forward of any mediocrity because it is, after all...an ASSYRIAN mediocrity has got to stop. I wouldn't cover for my children in this way...no way would I go to their achool and say, "do you realize my kid is an ASSYRIAN...how DARE you flunk her"????

I went over to Rosie's site...figured I should at least read a bit of her "book". I had to wade through an awful lot of self-agrandizing hype and promotional crap before I got to it...you'd swear Rosie was her OWN fan club. But that's typpical of us...it's a vicious cycle....we insist that we can write and sculpt and sing and people MUST praise us and never critique us, because we are ASSYRIAN...and so, without any useful criticism or standards at all...we go on producing the most amateurish stuff...which we then are FORCED to praise to the skies because there is NOTHING else..and we desperately want SOMETHING..it's a downward spiral...and I can't stand aside because I might hurt someone's feelings...even a family member...even a friend of the family.

The opening paragraph of Rosie's book is the most tortured writing I've ever struggled over and around and through...she could easily have won the annual Bulwer Lytton prize for the most awful first lines.

Rosie TELLS you a thing is "pretty"...she doesn't lead you to it...she PRONOUNCES a summer day is "fine and lovely"...though you'd never guess it from the actual writing..."Lugubrious" is the first word that came to mind...tortured, twisted, complaining, chained together and whipped forward words who ache and groan and rub each other the wrong way at every step in a sentence. These words don't fly...they don't sing you their song...they don't CONVEY a calm sunny day...they ANNOUNCE it in stentorian tones that connote anything BUT calm and serenity. It's as if she got paid by the useless word...like she was TRYING to force the words to perform unnatural acts against themselves.

...and just what sort of image do the words "soft stones" conjure up? What is a SOFT stone?

...if someone with some taste and skill in these matters had worked with her..instead of her adoring family who will praise anything a relative and "Assyrian" produces..and ESPECIALLY if it deals with our 'suffering"...she might have been spared her more terrible blunders. But who could tell her...or any of us, that?

...anyway...a first step, I am sorry to say...and since Aprim and Rosie themselves leave me no alternative, is to blast such efforts as they so richly deserve...if nothing else maybe in their next "books", if they dare venture there again, they will think a little harder...if for fear and out of a sense of impending ridicule all over again, if nothing else.

..you can't "humiliate' someone into greater achievement...but maybe you can make them less careless in their self-promotion...knowing that there is at least ONE person out there who actually expects you to produce something that lives up to all you say about YOURSELF.

...and now I know that Sweedish journalist was a fucking liar...or on the take. No one...absolutely no one with any sense or integrity, who ever read any literature at all..of any kind...could have said those complimentary and overblown things about this heavy, slogging "book".

Rosie...you embarrassed YOURSELF...as is usual with us. We always blame everyone else for our failures...there will be no improvement and no maturity down that road.

And for Ashur's sake don't run to your relative with this...you just prove me right...you can answer right here...defend yourself or explain...it's wat other people do..and they too have "suffered".

...watch out...some broad named Shushan is going to camp on your front lawn any minute now. Just call the police.
