I was fixing some computers at a local hotel and I had a laptop with me to troubleshoot the wireless network problems that they were having. I was about to leave the main office when I decided to put my laptop and bag underneath the desk, instead of leaving it out in the open. An old Chaldean man who works at the hotel said "This isn't Baghdad", and I immediately thought he meant "You don't need to hide your laptop, because we aren't in dangerous Baghdad. In America nobody would touch it". So, I asked him what he meant and it turned out he meant that in Baghadad, you never had to worry about your belongings being stolen from a public place, or really from anywhere. He said, sure, maybe now that there is poverty and war, then the people will steal, but otherwise they wouldn't. And I believe him. Maybe America exports more than just death and destruction? --------------------- |
