Dear Ashur,

This short post is my way of trying to make some sense and explore with our readers how best to understand why we have engaged in this constant and daily insinuations and damages leveled at an elected representative in far away country called Iraq.

...because you are pissant Christians, made insane by the lowly position in life you were told to "covet"..and because the tension this enforced humility sets up with your lofty and overblown claims that you are, of ALL things, ASSYRIANS...makes you unable to calmly accept what you BEGGED for..which is, to be as nothing...to be as Jesus...which means to follow him right up to the cross and get nailed there...confident that there are more food stamps in heaven then you`ve managed to get here...because of this, your squat hairy bodies are tormented constantly and your mean spirit makes you all LOATHE anyone who manages to get slightly ahead of you in any way....

By now, the world has witnessed and seen how the voting process is done. One might not agree how the Iraqi elections were carried out and how the strong overwhelmed the process at the expense of the weaker groups.

...when there is fraud in Florida and the Supreme Court steps in to elect their own president...what do you want from an Iraq driven to the breaking point by America?

...aren`t the stronger parties at aina..meaning Firas, able to "overwhelm" the weaker ones...meaning those without a button? You expect more of Iraq than you do of aina?

Let us now pause and look at what the realities are and I will ask a few questions and I am sure we all know the answers to them:

...sure you all do..you know ALL the answers...that`s why there`s a Kurdistan now where Saddam would never have allowed one to be...also why you Christians are now living at the mercies of the DOMINANT Shiia...who will NOT let you own liquor stores or listen to music freely...go on...petition THEM why don`t you?

1) Can this be corrected right away?

...only if you have faith in Jesus.

2) In diaspora, could anyone have forced the people to vote? Most did not vote, period.

...you want to FORCE people to vote?

3) Did this nation have enough choices (slates and leadership)?

...you do not have a nation...you have a gaggle of sects who come from all sorts of nations. It would help immensely if you would remove these words from your vocabulary...

4) Do we just shoot the slate and the leaders that won?

...you could...wouldn`t matter anyway. Someone else will just do it...once the Americans are gone.

I want to ask myself this. In the election’s aftermath, and if I were to disagree with some strategies of the party and leadership, would I just try to destroy the reputation of the elected representative or should I put my nation first and respect the vote?

...you have no nation...you people voted all over the place..and if you had all voted for ONE person, that person wouldn`t be able to do a damn thing for you...watch. Do you actually believe that if you all voted for one...it would mean anything to the Muslim majority? If anything, they`d become MORE concerned that you unified...you guys just can`t win.

By the way, and for the record, I personally do not agree 100% with what Zowaa’s policies are. But that is what makes us want to improve. Adding positive value is whole lot different than chipping with anything that is negative..

...try not to get poetic on us...you`re already dealing in fuzz, wholesale...keep it simple. You want the guy to SHUT UP...then say so!

Is it any wonder that not many of our organizations and/or political entities have been able to make substantive inroads in pulling this nation together?

..no wonder at all..if you`ll fly apart at the sight of a Jew god...what couldn`t get you to fly apart? A boy scout troop could have taken this "nation" away from you all...you can barely manage a conversation where you CONTROL who speaks..and you want a nation in the WORLD?

I find it incredible that we are forever mired in this shallow crocodile infested swap, publicly demanding instant changes.

Four years is what we have. Is it not better to band together and help notch this nation’s representation in Iraq forward?

Mr. Younadam Kanna was duly elected. I can hate his guts but the reality is that since he won a seat to represent those that voted (At this point those that did not vote, they can jump up nine feet but it would not matter. By not voting they forfeited their right to make a democratic change and if they now woke up to demand changes then in my opinion they are deemed as sore losers). God willing, they can exercise their right in four years’ time.

...your notion of unity is curious...people must all vote for ONE...that`s pluralism? And the losing side...well they can just go get screwed...what you want is an elected TYRANNY.

It is not anyone’s fault that you are in Lebanon and could not vote. For a learned person like yourself, I suggest that you begin a different approach. You are certainly not making any sense at your current method of directly naming and targeting specific personalities at every turn and chance you get. It would fine if you could make a change and that is the reality that you must face.

Many of us do not agree with such tactics. I personally feel that you are a one man wrecking crew and you may not realize that you are overstepping the rights of many other who are looking to the coming FOUR years as a historic milestone and a crucial first step in improving their existence.

...that`s what you said about the "liberation" of Iraq...which has seen you lose even MORE than you lost when you Christians attacked the Ottoman Empire...you will NEVER regain have what you lost back then...your recent history is one of steady and constant loss...you just see "great hope" in this...go figure.

If you care (I am sure you do) then respect the right of the majority voters and help in showing your support and seek different methods by which your ideas are heard.

...so wise...so foolish...so typical.

How would you do that?
Just imagine if this public forum and other mediums were not available, what would you do?

I am sure you would find wiser ways to privately, get your point across either in person or through urging the apposing sides to meet and explore what and how to make the next four years a great success or eventually a change in the leadership.

...yes but thank god aina IS here! How could I do this all on my own..without Firas and Aprim to do the heavy pulling? All one has to do is LET you people make your case to the WURLD...that`s all. Nothing will sink your ridiculous claims faster than a full and fair hearing..if there´s anything I can do to speed that along...just let me know. The world needs to hear THIS!

One person, be it Younatham Kanna or Ashur Gewargis do matter but NOT when we are speaking of a Nation’s fate. Mr. Kanna can be replaced once a better alternative and a more capable person are found. Frankly, such a person does not exist. I certainly have not seen anyone that can fit the bill or fill his shoes.

Yesterday in Canada we had a federal election. Three major parties were campaigning (at times with some low blows) but today we have new government and the other parties will go on to pledge their full support (not to the winning party) but to the Canadian people and the country as a whole. I voted for the losing party simply because I had some doubts about the new prime minister. So what am I supposed to do now? Democracy tells me he and his party won fair and square and I need to pitch in (not withhold my taxes) and contribute to the well being of my adopted country. The new prime minister may turn out to be a God send.

...Canada isn`t Iraq. Or haven`t you noticed? It takes centuries to become a Canada...which, like other European colonies, had Magna Charta and other well established democractic or at least parliamentary insitutions well in place...Iraq was on its way..which is precisely the reason its been knocked back to a Dark Age..and you think it will improve because YOU want it to?

I think it is brother Adam who is asking in his article titled (Why do Assyrians suffer?).
I can say only because we bring it on ourselves and expose our cards for everyone to see and realize how porous is our solidarity walls.

I guess such schemes and policies will only further alienate our people and drive a bigger wedge between us to further drown what is left of the trust that is so insignificantly weak.

A few years of such bitterness may stamp it out for good and we can not allow that to happen.
