...Steve Jordon is a reporter with an Omaha newspaper who'd covered the story of Chance Reynolds from the beginning...when he was busted and sent to prison... Mr. Jordon, My name is Fred Parhad. For the last two years I have lived in Mexico with my wife and three children. Soon after moving into our ranch, our next neighbor over and his wife introduced themselves to us. The man appeared to be a rugged cowboy-type who said his name was Lew Garcia, his wife is Celina Neteri Reynolds. They had two daughters with them, Halley and Annie. We became close, I loaned them $25,000 to start a horseback riding business together as partners...I think you know what this is leading to as this same story, in diffrent form, has appeared in the articles you wrote in 1999. Sometime back Lew Garcia told me his "real" story, one version of it. He is of course, John Brentley Chancellor(Chance) Reynolds. Needless to say he soon produced a fake title to the horses and tack I had purchased and the story continues from there. His pattern of running away has not yet been played out because they are reduced to almost nothing and have managed to seduce a hard-core group of believers who help him to this day and who have tried in every way to have me harmed, arrested, discredited or deported. I eventually contacted the United States Marshall's office in Pierre, South Dakota where I first spoke with Officer Basilio Perez who hooked me up with Jay Cripps in Colorado, lead agent on the Reynold's case for the last four years. That first contact was made on the Sunday night of the Academy Awards, I remember because that was the first time I called Chilo (Officer Perez), catching him at the check-out stand at a supermarket. The story gets complicated and increasingly bizzare from then on out. I was asked to keep an eye on Reynolds until the paperwork could be completed and Marshalls sent to fetch him. I was also asked to get a photograph of Reynolds and Celina if possible...I did so and from that moment things heated up and have not let up since. I can forward you the photographs once we reach an agreement on this story. The events since then have included an attack on me while out riding with my daughter on her birthday by Reynolds, on horseback. That ended with my eldest son coming to my rescue in our Suburban and me running over Reynolds and his horse. Unfortunately the horse was killed and Reynolds escaped with only a broken collar bone. There was a recent high speed chase involving three Mexican Interpol agents and Reynolds and Celina in the truck of another ardent believer in Reynold's self-glorifyig myth...that began with their ramming my rental car, with my three children and I in it. There is far too much to tell in one message. If you are interested, please contact me. He is still here but in hiding. Each day brings me closer to finding him. The reasons that I have involved myself to this extent are complicated. I can refer you to both officers Perez and Cripps for confirmation, as well as Colonel Phillip Maher, the Consular Representative for the United States Embassy in this town. The story is not over yet. Sincerely, Fred Parhad ...Jordon soon after did an article about Chance re-surfacing in Mexico and then disappearing again. --------------------- |
