...to see Narsai in company with Kanna. He`s made the usual mistake...mistaking these puddles for an ocean just because "they`re all we have right now". Narsai wants very much to do "good" also. But he`s taken the path of least resistance...he gets immediate gratification and kudos for "sending help to Iraq"...while he and the rest of us pay far more to make the people of Iraq needy of "help". It is not a natural disaster that struck Iraq...not an earthquake or flood..it is US. ...I thought he was made of finer stuff...I thought he could have kept his eyes on the prize. Any number of stooges could do what Narsai is doing now...it suits him however because HE is the star of this show..and it is HIS show. He no longer has to share billing with me...or, far worse, see his efforts ecplipsed by the praise I received...he became a producer who resented the attention the stars or director of the film received...and so he decided to star in and direct his own film...except those are not his strengths... Narasi was the ONLY Assyrian in America who could have worked for wider recognition for this Heritage in the ARTS...and the Arts count far more...as we can see...there is not ONE story about "needy Assyrians" anywhere in a museum...but there IS glorious Art..and it is what survives..and in our case especially, it is what gives the lie to all the slanders heaped upon us by others..but mostly by our own Christians. This has turned into the "Narsai Rescue Mission"...which would never have been heard of had not thousands of Iraqis been killed...with or without that occurance, our Heritage was in danger...as it is even more now. To truly help those Christians stuck in Iraq one would either stop this war or get them out...but this insane "mission" to "keep a presence"...when the people conducting it are all OUT of Iraq..is nothing more than using those people WE have bombed into oblivion to benefit..not THEM...but OURSELVES. This is the gross error Narsai has committed...without his envy and ego battles with me over 20 years I don`t think he would have fallen for it. One of the things that most early and most persistantly bothered him about me was that I refused what amounted to an almost direct order to place his name on the pedestal of the monument of Ashurbanipal..singling him out for being the President of the foundation we formed. I was not even going to add my own name to the monument...instead I dedicated it to my mother and father...and Narsai already had his name on it as a major patron..but he wanted EXTRA credit...and I refused. Was I wrong? I don`t think so...I think this desperation we have of being RECOGNIZED is a curse...because the recognition..and soon ANY recognition, becomes more important than what we DO...if we don`t receive the recognition...we don`t consider the task worth doing....carry that through far enough and long enough and you get Dadeeshoo AND Kanna AND Narsai and any number of other leaders..all of whom are leading us to THEIR cult of one. Maybe I should have nursed Narsai`s ego..and that of Nimrod...and Bejan...and Golani...and Ashur...and Sargon...and Bob....and Tom....and Sargon...and Nineveh...and Nancy...maybe I should have been what they all are...a professional EGO BUILDER...and not a monument builder. But I wouldn`t do it...couldn`t do it...if I can`t have the real thing...you can keep your fakes...just keep them away from me and this Heritage..is all. --------------------- |
