whether or not you like the personality of a writer has nothing to do with how you judge his book.

...I know. They said the same about "Mien Kampf"

To suplement

You just have made the most idiotic argument one can make.

...see? Everyone is entitled to an opinion...mine should be as welcome as your`s.

Referencing is the most accurate and academic way of sayin things.

...Aprim does not "reference"...he LIFTS...out of context...turns upside down, then uses to "prove" his point. He has written a history of Syriac and Missionary opinions...as such it is almost valid. BUT...it is not a "History" of anything else BUT an "Opinion of other Opinions"...

In today’s modern world, you cannot say anything withour referencing it.

...yes but this is where character counts...if you have the sort of character Aprim has...which we`ve seen displayed in all its pettiness for years now, you could be forgiven for thinking he`s used the same underhanded methods in his "research" as he has in discussion...for instance, we find him now outraged that HIS wrods are being deleted...you might think this means he`s a man of principle who is championing freeedom of speech and justice for all. But we know better because we all remember Aprim INSISTING that views of other`s that were personally displeasing to HIM be removed. He`s not speaking out for any principle...for he is not a principled man...he just got angry when what he advocated be done to the rest of us, is now being done to him.

...I could be rejoicing now that he is the one being pushed around...and if I was made of the same wood shavings he is, I would be. But I`m not. I agree with Aprim, on PRINCIPLE...I don`t care who is whose friend...Aprim should NOT be deleted or banned...he should be allowed to post whatever he wishes AND the rest of us should be allowed to respond. I`m against book burning...as a PRINCIPLE...whereas Aprim is all for censorship and banning, so long as it isn`t done to HIM.

...This tells me, loud and clear, that Aprim will take advantage of any situation he can to give himself an unfair advantage...and, without having to read a book by him or go out and write my own, I KNOW he`s done the same thing when "researching" and "referencing" this book of his.

...So, a man`s character can betray him...if he has such a treacherous character. Had he any personal integrity...had he NOT sought to get out of an intellectual discussion by dragging in my children, I might give him the benefit of the doubt...if I dislkie Aprim it`s because HE behaves in ways that would make anyone opposing him dislike his BEHAVIOR.

Are you for real or do you just don’t like the guy.

...not liking him has nothing to do with it...not liking what he DOES...when what he does is dishonest, unscrupulous, disingenuous and coawrdly is another thing. These are not reassuring qualities in a researcher.

One thing that many have forgotten here is this; one might have different opinion with Fred or any writer at times and on specific issues; this actually it shows the variety of opinions and is very healthy for a living community.

...anyone who "writes" is not a WRITER. You have to clear this up first before you throw the word around. Just what makes a writer a WRITER?

But you cannot blame a writer based on his personal stands but for what he/she writes.

...it is not for anything other than for the character he has displayed when engaged in conversations, in person and on forums. The man hides behind moderators who ban for him..in order to spare him any real effort...he calls for others to be banned and deleted, while turning purple when he gets a taste of his own medicine...he insults people and their family members...he threatens to drag your children into it...no one has "disliked" Aprim because THEY have a predeliction to do so...those of us who have felt his cruelty, who have had to suffer in enforced silence while our responses to him were deleted and his idiocies were aired, after which he has dared to come out and "answer"...those of us who have REASON to dislike the man...also have reason, good reason, to distrust, not "dislike"...but to DISTRUST anything he presents to us as a "book". We`ve watched his BEHAVIOR and his behavior has shown us an unscrupulous and a cowardly man who is even NOW crying on the phone for protection for his Royal Greatness.

A writer might be very biased in his political stand, as many of journalists or publishers are but when it comes in terms of writing history; the only judgment must be from the point of quality referencing.

...then you haven`t read much more than family history. The world is FILLED with bad and inaccurate and CIA history books. One only becomes suspicious of those who demand their books be ACCEPTED "or ELSE".

I believe, it is then that a good writer can lead the readers to their own judgment (by providing facts),

...what is contained in Syriac manuscripts and the accounts of missionaries are NOT facts! They too are opinions. Aprim "wrote" a book filled with OPINIONS...not facts. As such it is a history of THOSE opinions...and those OPINIONS he "referenced" are OPINIONS about history...they are NOT history.

where on the other hand a not a very well-written book can might be seen biased. In either case, a history book is different all toget5her from an article in a paper.

...if you want to play with the grown ups you will have to define your terms..just what is "history" and what is a "book" and for that matter what is a "writer"...start at the beginning...what are YOU talking about when you use these word as if you know what they mean AND that your definitons are universal and shared by a majority anywhere.

Moreover, whether you like the personality of the writer or his political stands has nothing to do to how you judge his book.

...it can. It can in the case of Aprim because he is a known entity...not some obscure scholar on a faculty somewhere no one ever heard of or had knowledge of. We have seen his METHODS...we have felt his CHARACTER...we have seen him whine and cringe and duck for cover and wait to emerge when the way has ben cleared for him..for these reasons we feal we know him and for THAT reason we suspect that the same shoddy character traits he has amply displayed were also at work guiding his "book".

...Aprim made his character an issue...we were more than willing to ignore it and focus on the issues at hand..but it is Aprim who calls you a traitor, who calls you a Kurd, who threatens to expose your children when you thought you were in a discussion with an adult...it is Aprim who has revealed a low character trying to enoble itself with pomp and empty circumstance....we didn`t do it. I and the rest of us, would have been only too glad to leave our personalities and OUR character out of it...to not have been subjected to ill treatment from him because HE DID NOT LIKE US. Aprim opened this bottle and let this genie out and true to form, he`s crying now because he got hoist on his own petard. THAT is a man of poor character and such a man cannot be trusted as a "writer"...because he is doing the same in his "book" as he has done everywhere else: he thinks by having a book to his credit he has now achieved something of note. He has not.
