...Jackie Leyden was at the Metropolitan Museum just now interviewing several artists, over a hundred came by all day, who were there skecthing the Assyrian bas-reliefs, Babylonian AND Chaldean pieces This was an organized "protest"...called "Drawn In'"...those she interviewed said they were dismayed and even ashamed that their government was bombing the people and the precious sculptures their ancestors gave to the world...so they decided to underline this unprecedented tragedy by gathering together all day to DRAW!!! Right in the same galleries where, ages ago, yoors trooli went for his own advanced study...I used to take clay with me and copy pieces... It was nice to hear the organizer say that the country of Iraq was home to all the rest of the cultures there...he even said, "Iraq IS (my emphasis) Assyria"....now THERE is a sane man. Who...who besides our Christians, wanted to bomb those sites...thank Ashur others see the value and the tragedy...all Happy Jatou sees is "hope". --------------------- |
