Nayj, The original post was on Assyrians, but you can post other Iraqi artists here , not just Assyrians. That's for my own personal interest. I know of both Iraqis you mentioned. I met Sinan many years back and I can say he left an impression. He's the best friend of a friend of mine so I don't really like talking about him. As I remember him, he wasn't one to accept that Iraq was a mixed culture and argued to the point of anger at me about why Christian Iraqis (moreso directed at Chaldeans I think) distinguish themselves ethnically from the rest when there is no distinction to be made. I don't know what the Chaldean community ever did to Sinan to make him so vehemently opposed to the notion that they are distinctly non-Arab but it was there. Chaldeans existed in an Arab macroculture for so long the influences seeped into their cultural practice, but that wasn't going down too well. It was good we had our mutual friend to calm him down. Otherwise, he is humane. --------------------- |
