..It's strange. In Mexico some of the most devout Catholics are the native people...as you look at them weeping and praying before the virgin or Jesus you can't help but think they were once as devout and adamant in their beliefs towards their Aztec gods. And you know that if you took several Mexican babies, at birth, and scattered them among Muslim families, or Buddhist ones, they'd grow up just as devout Muslims or Buddhists.

So, what is religion REALLY? I can understand people developing, over the course of their lives, their own peculiar sense of spiritually...I can even see them passing that on to their children and grandchildren...I guess at that personal and individual a level, their religious beliefs could be truly genuine. But when you INSIST that everyone in your village, as well as in your family, has to have YOUR, or even the same, religion and that nothing else will be allowed...it seems to me you've not only robbed future generations of their chance to develop spiritually...but have robbed your OWN beliefs of their integrity....you've turned a spiritual and highly personal pursuit into a cookie cutter...a manner of enforcing unity.,,and it can't ring true..or be honest. People may be SINCERE in their beliefs...but that isn't the same as being honest. Bush is SINCERE in his madness...but he's hardly honest.

You can make almost any child into almost any kind of religion...therefore ALL religions that cram this stuff into their babies are not allowing REAL spirituallity to develop within the person...and this may be the reason everyone laments that people are "lacking in the true spirit of religion X Y or Z...doesn't matter which.

When kings went corporate and began taking over the lives of people they didn't know..and then imposing their own religious beliefs..those beliefs ceased to be truly religious and lost all spirituallity..they became instead methods of enforcing obedience...and after centuries and millenia of that...no one born into a religion has ANY idea of what true spirituallity is.
