..this is the final hiding place of all our scoundrels. Not a one of them, "prowd" though they are, say`s it`s the language of ASHUR...which the Jews happened to also speak...instead it`s the language of JESUS...which Assyrians HAPPENED to share. That alone should tell you enough. ...But does the fact that an ancient language is the liturgical language of a church mean that those who attend that church are therefore THOSE people..the people who invented the language? Well, of course not. ..Jews as well as Egyptians spoke and wrote Aramaic at that time...the fact that the language remained a part of the church liturgy only shows that ANYONE belonging to a Christian, or UNIVERSAL, church would have to learn that language...the same way that for centuries Latin was the language of the Church of Rome...which meant that all Germans, Italians, English, Spanish and French Christians knew their liturgy and wrote their books and their letters in LATIN...without becomming ROMAN or Italian or Latin...it was just the language of the church...that`s all. ...We see how quickly "Assyrians" FORGET or lose interest in this language when they leave Muslim countries...countries where the church held together a religious SECT...and where the language of that religious sect was seen as one thing which kept the sect together...but everyone and their cousin is Christian in Europe and America...and there are now many sects that don`t use the ancient language...but use English or German or French instead...how is it that this all-important language, which MAKES a person "Assyrian", is so little valued in the West? I`ll tell you...because the RELIGION is the most important thing...and whatever language the RELIGION is doled out in is the language these "Assyrians" will eventually come to use exclusively. ..the language proves nothing at all...hundreds of thousands of people spoke it back then...it was a language people LEARNED in order to get along...and to understand church services in. Speaking "Assyrian" hardly makes you one...or can be presented as proof that you are...no more than learning to speak French gives you French citizenship. --------------------- |
