...sometime during the 15th century, in Germany, I believe...the Christians engaged in moneylending went to their prince complaining about the success of the Jews who were reaping greater profits, so they claimed, by lending money at interest...same as the Christians were doing. These Christian crybabies, who already had the playing field all but to themselves asked the prince to pass a "law" stating that Jews could only charge 5% interest on loans from then on...while Christians could gouge to their heart`s content...the prince complied. Less than a year later the complaining Christians were back again...the dumb clucks never figured out that by imposing a cap on interest charges, they had just made the Jews MORE popular...hence they made even MORE money. The prince obliged them again by passing a new "law" that said Jews and Christians had to charge the SAME interest rate...which might have made the Christians believe later that the Jews had once tried to gain an unfair ADVANTAGE and had to be checked by " ye faire and upright Christian". Guess whom the Christians blamed for this new example of "Jewish Perfidy"? --------------------- |
