...as you'll recall, gentle reader, yoors trooli's donation to the AIDS dinner...one worth several thousand dollars in aid to Iraqis we're killing...was rejected by the AIDS committee....something about me having hurt their feelings by saying they were the kind to let their hurt feelings get in the way of the work they claim to be doing. ..As a result, I'm going to their dinner so they can SEE the person who hurt their feelings so tewibbly. ...so today, just now, I was asked if I might have a small sculpture appropriate to present to Dr. Donny George, in appreciation...who it looks like will be able to make the dinner after all. Luckily I happen to have just such a piece...an ideal gift, in bronze, that he will be pleased with, especially as he seems the type of Assyrian who's feelings are NOT easily hurt. Remembering that I'm a Pagan and not a Christian..and that I don't believe for a minute that I am "pure Assyrian"...but see myself rather as a decsendant of ALL the magnificent cultures of that region, including the glorious Islamic one...and that therefore I am not a howling idiot...I readily consented...keeping my eyes on the prize and forgetting all the reasons I might have to have gotten MY feelings "hurt"...just last week. We mature people are like that. So I agreed...only asking that someone pay to replace the piece...since it technically isn't mine to give...to the AIDS people...so they can give it to Donny George. The cost to replace the casting will be about $200...never mind what the piece sells for...I am, after all, donating to the AIDS...only the needy people of Iraq won't be the one's to benefit by this minor donation...they're still out several thousand dollars...but the AIDS will look good...presenting something meaningful to Donny George..instead of a pen or mug. I was assured...by whom, gentle reader, you need not be told...that I would be paid for the casting cost of another. "Oh", sez I..."and just who is gonna pay"? The answer about knocked me over..."the committee will pay". ..."WHAT"...sez I in amazement, "they WILL pay for a gift to the featured speaker...pay and get NOTHING back for the "poor of Iraq"...but they WON'T pay for a donated sculpture that will bring in several thousand"??? I didn't persue it...it's just too ridiculous and typical. They didn't want to "promote me"...by auctioning off several sculptures, never mind their stated goal of trying to help poor Iraqis...fine...but, whose name do they think is on the GIFT to Donny George??? I'm going to go up and meet him...give him our email address. I'll do what all the rest are doing... promote MYSELF!!! --------------------- |
