...in a courtroom in Iraq. While the American/Iraqi judge in Saddam's case managed to keep Clark and others from addressing the obvious and fundamental flaw of the entire proceedings, namely that it's an American kangaroo court...he couldn't stop the lawyer from poking serious fun at America's self-righteous stance. After one woman testified to all sorts of abuses at the hands of Iraqi interrogators and prison officials, including all the usual uglies such as strip searches, rape and electric shock...Saddam's lawyer coyly asked if the woman had been photographed and had those photos circulated...she said she had not...he asked if attack dogs had been used...she said they had not. It would seem the Americans are still better at abusing and of course killing Iraqis than Saddam ever was. The irony that this was done at Abu Ghraib, whose recent administrators were the United States of America....where evrything this poor woman endured under Saddam has been endured and still is being endured, by thousands...with, of course, the American innovation of farming out torture...also something Saddam never did....ah well...but WE are Christians...so our shit is sweet and the grairs can't swallow and spit up enough of it. It must get harder and harder to keep a straight face...until only those most adept at lying...with the most practise over the last few years, will go on doing so right up to the end. Add to the Evangelical/Criminal mindset the odd notion that in Iraq we are to hold the head of state accountable for whatever any soldier might have done...but in our own case, again using Evangelical self-righteousness as a guide...we never expect to find Bush or Cheney or Rumsfeld or even any higher ranking military officer, responsible for what our soldiers did and continue to do. In America we have a son of God as president and only a few "bad apples" out there doing "bad" things...but in Iraq, we say...Satan himself rules the nation and NO ONE is more responsible than THEIR head of state. It's going to be diffiucult to find a smoking gun in Saddam's hand...all he has to say is there were a few rotten apples in Iraq too and he didn't know what was being done, I mean that sort of denial is ALSO a proud part of democracy...and ask America to take all ITS rotten apples back to Alabama and Texas where they can continue this sort of abuse of Americans...mostly Black and poor. Iraq needs no more rotten apples. --------------------- |
