In response to Lawrence Kaplan's article on the Christians of Iraq recently printed in the Dallas Morning News. First and foremost, to Mr. Kaplan, my sincerest thanks for bringing to light an issue that has been marginalized by the main stream media, gov, church, and general populous. I am an Assyrian Christian I have lived in the U.S. since I was 2. I have served my Country as a Recon Scout in the United States Army. I am a devout Christian and a patriotic Assyrian-American.

I, like the majority of the Assyrian American population rushed to the polls in 04 to vote for our man Bush. I mean come on, a Texas Cowboy! Devout and unashamed Christian! And looking to take out Sadaam to boot.... this was a no brainer. Surely this meant that the Assyrian community, oppressed for so long, would finally get what we thought was coming to us...a home were we would be safe to speak the language of Jesus (yes, I'm proud to say that he spoke like us and looked like us...not like Max Von Sidow), worship in a fashion that has come down to us unchanged from the dawning of Christianity, and live a life of democracy and hope. Little did we know we would be betrayed yet again. After all that has happened in Iraq, is this administration actually worried about being labeled "Crusader"? Is this the motivation behind denying Assyrian Christians some source of help or protection...what in the world else could it be? What could we possibly have done wrong to be shunned and covered up?

Why has this administration sat idly by and allowed Christians to be butchered like sheep in Iraq? Haven’t we done enough to support the Western powers that be? We fought for the allies in WWI we fought for the allies again in WWII! We gave our lives willingly under the agreement that we would be given a piece of land were we could dwell in safety. We served with honor in Athens, Germany, Iraq, as well as many other fronts. Those of us blessed enough to live as free Americans, go to work, pay our taxes, and serve our country proudly. We don't wear rags on our heads, we don't wear native dress to work or school. We are members of this society like anyone else. Recently the President told a group of Assyrian leaders that the Assyrian people like any other in Iraq need to be more brave and stand up for themselves. I can't begin to tell you how outrageous that comment is. There is no braver man then the Assyrian fighting man...but what can this marginalized minority with absolutely 0 resources and 0 support possibly hope to accomplish.

We are still waiting! Waiting for help from the President that we voted for!
Mr. Kaplan, you have my heart felt thanks and admiration...if I may ever be of assistance, please let me know.

May Jesus Christ protect the Assyrian Nation and all Christians!!..May the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob judge those who seek their harm.

...we have been the FIRST to betray us,,,everyone else just followed our lead...
