Youkhanna Shlimon was born in Iraq in 1960. His parents told him it was really still Assyria but foreign invaders had taken it away from the indigenous people hundreds of years before and renamed it Iraq...but, of course, he was an Assyrian...if for no other reason than he was born in Assyria...even though the language he spoke was that of the Arameans and his religion, and name, was Jewish. As he grew he joined with other Assyrians to demand his country back from the foreign (Arab) occupiers...he even wrote to foreign governments urging them to come to his rescue and give him back what had been stolen from him and also cheered on foreign countries who attacked his own. Government agents eventually got wind of their organization and arrested them all on a charge of sedition...he also had became very unpopular with his non-Assyrian neighbors who accused him of working against his own homeland. Eventually Youkhanna Shlimon found life too difficult and moved to London where he continued to work for the return of the Assyrian Nation. He was eventually run over and killed by an ice cream truck.
