That’s a play on words. I mean his book cover, but also his own cover. We may not have much history but we have a lot of psychology.

It’s interesting that of all the choices he had for the book’s cover he selected the photo he did. I mean the possibilities were endless but the one he chose just happens to be a version of the fancy-car-in-the-photo-is-mine mentioned earlier. The book’s jacket shows a young boy, maybe 13 years old…a good impressionable age, posing in front of a large rock carving of some Assyrian figures. This photo, like the hypothetical fancy-car one is being “sent” back home…back to the village where Aprim’s relatives are eagerly awaiting news…has he made it big? They’re dying to know.

And he has, apparently. For there he is, standing in front of a grand old Assyrian model which they gladly take for his own, because his success means their’s also….he must “own” it because he’s standing right in front of it…”see”…?

It wouldn’t have been enough to merely show the Assyrian sculpture by itself, as it would have proven nothing to send the photo of just the big car back to Assyria. The connection had to be made in the eye of the beholder, as in the mind of the reader, between the fancy car and Aprim…or the Assyrian sculpture and the young, presumably, Assyrian boy in the picture.

No one denies the existence of fancy cars or that people own them…or of the Assyrian empire or the survival of the survivors…we just don’t have any registration papers to show that Aprim owns the car…and if he wants to drive it legally…he has to have papers. “Officer!, officer!, I KNOW it belongs to me, look at the picture if you don’t believe me!”, just won’t do. We want to see the papers or else it’s theft pure and simple.
