The leaders of religious minorities living in Iran speak favorably of their conditions while the US has recently released a damning report on the condition of these groups, Press TV reports.

“Obviously, after the Iranian conversion to Islam, the condition of the Iranian Jews became much better,” said Ciamak Mosadegh, a Jewish member of Iran's Majlis (parliament).

Given the presence of synagogues in Iran and the freedom of the Jews in carrying out all their religious rituals in the country, he said, “Iran is one of the freest countries as far as religious freedom is concerned.”

“Of course being a religious minority has its own problems in [every] part of the world, but it is very important for us to know that our condition is improving every day,” the Jewish lawmaker said.

“After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, our situation got even better,” said Yonathan Betkolla, an Assyrian member of Iran's Majlis (parliament).

In spite of such assurances, the US State Department has recently released a “Report on International Religious Freedom” in which it labeled Iran amongst the “Countries of Particular Concern.”

The report claims the situation of the followers of various religions in Iran is deteriorating.

Under the Iranian constitution, Christians, Jews, and Zoroastrians are recognized as religious minorities with equal rights and reserved seats at the parliament.

The parliament also has Sunni members from areas with strong ethnic minorities such as Kurdistan and Baluchistan.
