I started this topic by asking the following question: “Without a belief in an overseeing deity and in the possibility of divine retribution, what compels us to behave morally?”

if you offer again to switch sides and argue both positions,

I did that only once. I wanted to show you refutations that are much more sophisticated than: “that's silly”, “absurd”, “foolish”, “swiss cheese”, “circus barker”, “pigs on mars”...etc.

then you're letting yourself in for what you say you don't want.

I have an offer: you argue for religion and I argue for Atheism. Let us switch sides. What do you say?

>>How do I show? When you genuinely believe, love and fear God, you will abide by His commandments.

>...oh fer chrissakes...now you're insulting me, if I could be insulted...but you're toying with me and that pisses me off. I have to BELIEVE to discuss this? I asked you a simple question and you come back with, "you have to believe". Silly.[b]

I'm not asking you to believe in God. Assume someone else does believe. Here's a story: You are alone with an Atheist in the middle of a desert. The man lifts up a gun and points it at at you. He knows that by killing you, he can marry your daughter and inherit your multi-million dollar fortune.

Give him ONE reason why he should not shoot you.

[b] Islam is as bad as the others EXCEPT it is not VIOLENT...like Christianity is

If it is not violent, then why would Muslims be better off without it? (Assume it doesn't condone circumcision).

we know by now that when the media doesn't mention the religion of a criminal it is because he is Christian

If you killed someone, they will not mention your religion in the media. Should we assume you are a Christian?
