Liberal Democracy is the only true Democracy.

By its very nature, a democracy, rule by the majority, would have to be people-oriented, it would have to be liberal. People will generally vote their best interests and since the majority are never millionaires but working people, they will favor whatever makes their lives pleasant....you would think.

If you find a democratic form of government where the people are less and less well-served by their institutions and officials and where the lives of only the rich are made pleasant, you can bet something else, something sneaky, is going on.

That sneaky thing is elective Fascism.

Why would people, who make up families and have children, vote against education and school breakfasts and health care and safety and recreation and regulations to protect the air they breathe and their babies' formula....why? It's a democracy, right? And the majority of the majority are in families, and if they're not, their interests coincide in many ways....so why have wages been getting lower, in terms of actual purchasing power, to the point where two jobs aren't enough, and schools more run down and neglected, and streets and bridges not tended to, and health care run for profit? Who do these kinds of neglect help...who do they hurt? Since all these programs are paid for by taxes, in a democracy, then it must be the draw-down of taxes that is at the core of the neglect....and who pays taxes? The rich, who are the only ones left who can afford to pay income taxes, or have enough purchasing power to make sales taxes meaningful.....

This system, then, even if it is a democracy, serves the rich, not the majority...not the majority we have in this country now at least. How did the rich skew everything to their own interests, including not paying the taxes which would raise everyone's standard of living? How indeed....how do they get the majority freely voting to benefit mostly the wealthy few?

And that, savage reader, is where modern Fascism comes in. Forget your grandfather's Fascism with its black shirts and goosesteps and funny facial hair....FOX News is not Republican, it isn't even conservative, it is out and out Fascist....as has become the majority of the Republican Party....what is called Conservatism is the modern face of Fascism...of the rule of business and only business...and the trick is getting people to VOTE for them....through trickery.

The biggest “trick” has been JESUS....the next biggest has been FREEDOM. Then comes opposition to Gays, which can go under the heading of MORALS, next comes “fear” of BIG GOVERNMENT.....followed by SECURITY...and a smattering of other such tricky devices to put in front of the electorate to take their eyes off the Fascist takeover, which in its modern form MUST be effected peacefully, even with bells and whistles and candy so people WANT it.

People have become convinced that taxing the wealthy will also place a heavy tax burden on themselves...even though they haven't the income and more than likely never will and so will NEVER have to face those higher taxes on the wealthy...besides which, wouldn't you LIKE to have to “complain” about high taxes? It would mean you were making that much money...The rich can easily afford another 5% in taxes whereas the rest of us would find it hard....but who says taxes have to be paid by everyone, at the same rate? It's a progressive tax system, remember...raise taxes at the percentage each class can afford to pay....and the richer and getting-richer-by-the-minute can afford to pay more...and we could make them pay, but we don't.

Then there is Jesus....belief in him is supposed to trump concern over anything else....and since he is getting less popular, this fact can be used to “alarm and alert” those who still believe and be used as a cudgel against the society as a whole....”come back to Jesus” is every villain's rallying cry...the polluter, the war-monger, the afraid-of-big-government freak, none of whom could get elected if the public knew their real agenda, can be swept into office on a tide of religious moralism and fake outrage....and once in office can do the actual work he came to do...undo the EPA, cancel labor unions, cut taxes, take us to war. No one would vote for such people if they spoke the truth of their agenda,,,,so they get into office roaring “Jesus” over and over again.

Then there is FREEDOM. Americans have been brought to believe that the freedom to starve or live in a car is the mark of a truly free society, because you have CHOICE, another Fascist rallying cry and deception. You don't HAVE to live in a car, they say....it's a “free society”, they say...you could get a job, so it's your FREE choice to live like that. Any social program aimed at getting children and their parents out of cars into public housing is an attack against FREEDOM and must be fought like the devil. Americans actually feel ashamed of themselves for finding few to no opportunities, or for not being able to live on two jobs, like it is THEIR fault wages are so low. Well, actually it HAS been made out to them that it is their fault,,,,because they won't agree to slash all taxes on the wealthy, the wealthy can't afford to “create jobs”, so we're just doing it to ourselves by not giving the wealthy even MORE tax and other benefits...when the truth is that job-creaters only create those jobs when they are forced to...their natural inclination is to cut jobs, or ship them off to countries where labor costs far less and there are no regulations, thereby keeping even more money for themselves, either that or buy machinery to do the work....the only real job-creators are we consumers...when our demand for goods (and the ability to PAY for them), exceeds the manufacturing capacity of industry, THEN and only then, will jobs be created...to fill the need WE create....the boss has no “need” to hire more people, without us making it necessary.

In the last thirty years we have witnessed, first hand, this descending spiral.....wages have dropped to the point where not enough people can buy cars and appliances or clothes and shoes or afford to go out for dinner so that all these suppliers are hurting and many have been forced out of business, which also reduces paychecks. The money which once came with each paycheck has gone instead to the pockets and into the mansions of the rich...it has been taken out of circulation so there is less and less to spend on much of anything...and the solution the rich have for this is to print more funny money, so they can keep playing Monopoly and see how much more of THAT money they can siphon off....meanwhile the debt increases and the interest payments on that debt swallow more and more of the money available to fix schools and cover health costs and keep parks open...the rich can still travel to Aspen, in fact they can afford it even more, while the rest of us forgot about vacations long ago, because we live in a “free country”and that should be more than enough.
