Mr. Younadam Kanna, Memebr of Iraqi Parliament and member of the Committee for Modifying Iraqi Constitution, is visiting Spain and Germany between February 10-19, 2007.
Mr. Kanna is part of a special group visit organized by the United Nations mission in Iraq in order to learn from the experiences of Spain and Germany as federal systems.

Right off the bat it has to be said that whatever government is in place now is going to beat a hasty retreat right after the Americans go. As it is none of them can leave the Green Zone for fear of assassination, so they hardly represent anyone besides the Americans guarding them. We’re again reduced to playing games in place of anything serious but let’s go along for the ride.

Kenna is going on what’s known as a political junket. That’s when politicians need a vacation and get someone else to pay for it. Of course they visit a pig farm or factory while in the vacation spot of their choice so it looks like they aren’t doing what they’re really doing…which they do at bars and such later at night.

They have four days in Spain and four days in Germany, with one day for travel and recovery. Now you tell me, where are they going to go and what are they going see in so short a time, in those two advanced Christian countries, that’s going to tell them anything about Iraq in its current mess? They’d be better off traveling to Sierra Leone to see how people cope with endemic poverty and social fragmentation, rather than Germany or Spain.

It would be interesting indeed if while in Spain Kenna spoke with the Basque politicians and intellectuals to ask how their demands and guerilla tactics are working out so far to get them their own land back from the Spanish government…that might be an interesting report to send back to Fred Aprim for his consideration and analysis. Kenna already knows this is one silly pipe dream good only for milking our sillies in the West. Never in his right mind is he going to stand up and demand anything and neither is anyone else, inside Iraq…not even Fred Aprim…though they’ll all do it easily enough from San Jose and Melbourne etc.

But which of us is going to even look there…which of us has any experience with politics, I mean the real stuff, plus the nerve to speak out…who’s going to throw any ice water on this momentous tripe? The response from Aprim, if he could manage one would be..”you have to start someplace and why do you shoot everything down that is positive?”…which is what he said when we told him that a war against Iraq might make things worse for Assyrians and might not be that “someplace” you’d really want to “start at”…but would look more like a place you’d end up when blown through your own asshole at high speed…and that there was nothing remotely positive that could come to the Christians in Iraq from a gang of foreign Christian cutthroats attacking the country…but since I don’t believe for a minute that Fred Aprim had any illusions about improving anything for anybody but, rather, like all the rest of them was primarily interested in getting Iraqis and especially Muslim Assyrians killed...I don’t expect him to be able to fabricate an answer that would hold water…maybe holy water.

This breathless anticipation of the next “great opportunity” that’s supposed to come our way is nothing but more of the same…the chance to cry before the world when we get “betrayed again”…as if it was the Iraqis who planted and watered in us this ridiculous “hope” that anyone was going to give us anything…instead of the same damfools of our’s who are now poised to cry “foul” all over again when they don’t get what no one had any intention of giving them…not now, not then and not ever.

Today’s Aprimism is reflected in the joy with which he writes “organized by the United Nations”…it’s that calling up of great names that so satisfies the Boys. There is nothing they like more than listing all the agencies they’ve petitioned, who’ve all ignored them or sent stock replies…except they go really apeshit when the undersecretary to the undersecretary to the vice- director of the sub-head of the assistant to the assistant director of windowpanes agrees to meet with them…and the thought of Kenna, the universally ignored but elected-by-ten-Assyrians, is now being “recognized” and with him, we presume, all the ditzy claims made in the name of Assyria…and that from this paid vacation…probably to get him out of the country while something really important happens, will come those letters to be used and referred to by Gaby Kiwarkis and the rest for the next 100 years as “proof”...and “official proof” that Assyrians exist and that they’re all Christians, like the back-up letters from the missionaries…and therefore, since this is the United Nations, this is real, serious proof too.

Except for one thing…I’ll bet any amount of money that on Kenna’s travel papers, the word “Assyrian” doesn’t appear once…not once. He’s gone on this junket as a member of the Iraqi government and as an Iraqi national…and that’s all the “Assyrian” we’re ever going to be…
