Great news....California's Attorney General, Jerry Brown, has announced that his office will NOT be defending Proposition 8 in Supreme Court. Prop 8 was passed recently aimed at denying Gays the right to marry, just like anybody else. Brown said that such a measure amounts to redefining the state constitution and goes way beyond what the initiative process allows...meaning that the majority cannot pass its own laws denying basic freedoms to an historically hated minority.....that this runs counter to the basic doctrines of true democracy which is not meant to be a tyranny of the majority but rather has to have protections in place to protect minorities ensuring they are not discriminated against just because a majority of the population want to. ( do you think our boys understand this?)

This is the one thing that ennobles our democracy and keeps it from being oppressive to minorities.

The Evangelicals are hot and bothered because they claim the legal officers must "uphold the will of the people". Shows how much they know about constitutional government and our laws....or else they're playing dumb just to sound good. It is emphatically clear that officials, especially of Justice Departments and the Judiciary are most definitively NOT in the business of upholding the will of a numerical majority....their job is to UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION and the rule of law...NOT the popular will...at least not in areas which result in minorities being denied fundamental rights to equality.

Evangelicals say they have no problem with civil unions....but no one asked what THEY don't have problems with. Their problems aren't the issue because they aren't the ones being denied basic rights. Gay people want marriage, the whole thing...and it is THEY who are being denied their rights, not Evangelicals.. of course Evangelicals believe they have a right "not be upset" by you or me singing and dancing naked in our homes or on the beach. or Gays getting married....but that's tough shit for them...let them look away or mind their own business, or not marry a Gay person....of the same sex..

The issue isn't "Who is Upset". The issue is who is being DENIED basic rights...rights open ONLY to one sexual orientation. Bless Jerry Brown and here's hoping justice will prevail...justice, not god. Whenever god prevails there's hell to pay.
