...my jaw dropped open when Hitchens said that the very first attack against the United States was by Muslim pirates off the coast of Africa in the 18th century...that this was the first "jihad" against America...that Muslims said the Quran gave them the right to seize and enslave Christian sailors.

Sometimes I think people who agree to appear in debates have rules the other side must agree to...how else to explain why the ones opposed to Hitchens, in this case, can't think of a decent come-back to such a weird statement...are they all supposed to go easy on one another or they won't be invited back again...and since almost all of them have books to sell, they need the exposure and so don't go for the throat....as I would? Don't know.

Anyway, I would have responded in the following way...I would have reminded Hitch of his own words: that the Christian bible mandates slavery, as he has said many times...then I would remind him of how the Native Americans were treated, meaning murdered, by Christians and also maybe mention something minor like the SLAVE TRADE in which Christians kidnapped a few million Africans and did what we all know with them...and let's not forget that for all these crimes Christians called on JESUS....but no one said anything and Hitch was allowed to get away with laying this turd in front of everyone.
