I wuz. Someone pried the monumental head of Ashurbanipal off its base at Stanislaus University in Turlock some ten years ago. Narsai had donated it to the university and theyīd placed it on a nice pedestal in the lobby of the main administration building, with the library upstairs, I think.

Anyway Narsai got a call that it had been stolen. I was ecstatic because it was insured and the value of the piece had been appraised at $50,000.00. Naturally the university would want another casting and just as naturally the insurance company would pay and also naturally Iīd get the check...and it would cost a mere fraction of the amount of the check to cast them a new one...Iīd be richer by several thousand dollars...itīs a good thing they didnīt suspect me...or the Turks.

So I waited anxiously hoping againt hope that the sculpture was at the bottom of some river but no such luck...within a few days whoever stole it returned it at night and left it in the parking lot...not even damaged. Shitskies!!!

Why the hell did they return it? After successfully taking it, why bring it back and take more risks? Did someone squeal and was a deal made whereby no charges would be made if it was returned?

Or maybe the head of Ashurbanipal was better art...and the vandals ultimately couldnīt bring themselves to destroy it....and since I hadnīt maligned any Turks, there was little real incentive...maybe it was just a college-boy prank after all....but Iīm still convinced it was assyrians who did it....REAL assyrians....I am even more convinced because they whimped-out at the end and gave it back...in fear no doubt.
