The commandments carry no internal evidence of divinity with them; they contain some good moral precepts, such as any man qualified to be a lawgiver, or a legislator, could produce himself, without having recourse to supernatural invention”.

So true. The human mind is much more “divine” than nay book written by anyone…and yet we’re taught to distrust our minds in favor of written words which, as Paine says, carry no internal sign of being divine at all…in fact, they sound JUST like the things humans would invent…while we can never approximate or even “read” the human mind.
