...they say truth is always the first casualty....or maybe there would be no war...because a larger truth is that no one wins a war...they just lose the peace.

...first of all it isn't any more true that politicians "got it wrong"...or, "mistakes were made"...then that "media was duped". The CIA has countless journalists on its payroll who are paid bonuses and special fees. It isn't all honest, even if stupid, reporting.

...Americans, especially those making good money, have a vested interest in keeping things going as they are...which can mean doing even more nasty things to maintain their status or enhance it. These people don;t have to "conspire"...they don;t have to participate in conference calls to plot concerted action...it's all internalized...they believe as they do and the fact that all of them believe the same way is just a product of their beliefs and class status....and this American class knows damn well their country and their privileged lifestyle has a lot of answering to do to people around the world and at home....they know that a growing number of people around the world have more and more reasons to be pissed at them every day...and so they are afraid, and guilty and suspicious of any criticism because they don;t know where it might lead, what it might uncover.

..it isn't "mistakes were made" and "we apologize"...it's more like "we did it, and we'll do even more".....and we catch them at it, they'll bounce right back because they own the truth-making machinery.
