...as much as I respect and appreciate his views I find he too believes that scriptures are "inspired"...that there is a God who tries to communicate to his creations, through the medium of sheepshit herders OR scholars...and that's where I get off.

I'm willing to buy that people THINK they communicate with God..as readily as I accept that there are people who BELIEVE they are Napoleon....but BOTH categories belong in asylums.

Not until we go all the way, declare the whole thing a fraud, maybe even a "useful" fraud, and not just parse it here and there, will we rid ourselves of this blight.

Religion can't take the place of good parenting...or wise teachers...or appreciation and value for civics and community health...or respect. It has provided a short-cut all these centuries, but its failings are too evident. There's nothing to be gained, in the long run, by scaring, or bribing, children into "good behavior"....nothing at all..and a lot more harm comes from it.

And religion has NEVER answered those "Big Questions" you hear tell so much about. It has given pathetic and cartoon "answers" made much worse because people actually ACCEPTED them!

Like not being able to find the answer to a geometry problem but instead coming up with some sheer nonsense and calling THAT an "answer".

"Going to heaven when I die" isn't the answer to anything.
