"If all the Kurds, Arabs, Turkomans, Iranians etc were Christian, not a single Assyrian would see them different nor would they object if they happen to kill every one. But they happen to be Muslims so that makes them "different". It's true that they look alike and are alike. I see so many different Iraqi refugees almost everyday and it's hard to tell the difference until it comes to names which come because of religion. Sometimes even the Christians have Islamic or Arabic names so even then one can't distinguish. It's religion which makes them different. I was looking at a picture of Sajida(Saddam's wife) and she looks just like my own mother. I mean identical with same hair color and features." - This type of ethnic supremacy is just about the same, to some degree or less, among Iranians, too. You should see how the Persians treat the rest of the Muslims, especially, the Azeris. The call them "Tork-e-khar" (khmareh), and make all types of jokes about them being in love only and soley with a warm piece of barbari bread and their donkey. My maternal grandmother (yimit yimi) is either full blooded, or half, Azeri, and when she entered Iraninan society and married a Persian (my grandfather), she was not allowed to speak, or sing, or utter one word in Turkish. It's a shame I never learned to speak Turkish. My father, on the other hand, spoke both Turkish and Armenian, in addition to Assyrian and Persian. I think it's a beautiful thing to grow up among different ethnicities and not only learn their languages, but learn about their histories and cultures. --------------------- |
