They say Iraq and Iran were like paradise in those days. Whenever I speak to older Assyrians from Iraq, they always the "golden days" or as my father puts on the back of every photo he's ever taken " the good old days". I was talking to an older Sudanese man yesterday and he lived in Iraq in the 1960s and he said it was paradise. He cries when sees footage of what it's like today. It's a crime when you look Syria and Iraq on the before and after pictures. I guess everything is good now because America brought them freedom and and they can vote. A few years ago I was at job interview and the lady was asking me about Iraq and what I think about all this and I told her life was definitely better before all the mess that started in 91 and she says it's still has to be better than living under a dictator and I said people are now actually crying for that same dictator. I guess Americans think Iraqis were all locked in their houses because of Saddam Hussein. I've Even shias tell me they didn't have any problems with Saddam and that their lives actually improved when he took over in 79.

I remember visiting in 1990 and I didn't want go back to Germany. It was streets free, simple and everyone was so happy and welcoming. Muslims and Christians lived in same neighborhoods in Baghdad. As for Iran, you know more about it than I do but my uncle lived there and so did my aunty who both learned Farsi and said Tehran was amazing and Persians are friendly people. We had an Iranians lady friend in Germany who was assigned to us by the government to help us and her brother in law was an Assyrian man who was married to a Muslim woman. Then I met another young Assyrian in Berlin and he was also married to an Iranian Muslim and he said he has his religion and she has hers. It seems to be more common in Iran.
