Actually the rise of oil is due to investors moving their money from the previous secure US dollar - because it had been tied to black gold -
to other more secure assets such as oil, gold etc.

The whole thing is a sign of the weakness of the US dollar, the higher the cost of a barrel of oil the weaker the US dollar has become. It currently stands around $135US/barrel if it continues to rise and it will then some speculate that the ensuing rise in inflation will force the majority of the world's reserve banks to switch to Euros as the new standard and force the meltdown of the dollar. The trigger point has been estimated at $200 US/barrel. At that point the inflation rate of countries whose oil dollars are tied to the US dollar will be so unstable that even compliant countries would rather risk US anger rather than the riots and protest opf their populace.

Samee thing happened to the British pound in 1952 during the Suez crisis. US bailed them out provided they left the Middle East in US hands. The same thing may happen in our lifetimes. If that happens then the US may go the way of the USSR and become a mid power overnight.
