I think there isn't a chance anywhere that such a thing would ever happen... a. in the first place Iraqis don't credit assyrian claims... b. at the most they are willing to accept that ALL Iraqis are descended from the ancients, but not just from the Assyrians but from everyone who ever lived there ever.... c. they make no distinction as to when people moved to Iraq...as Americans don't: when you get your American citizenship you are an American, period. This business about assyrians being the indigenous people, but not the Arabs or the Qurds is absurd...according to the UN, which they like to credit when it agrees with them, any people residing in one place for 400 years is indigenous, by that count every Qurd in Iraq is as indigenous as any assyrian, and a lot more than any European, or anyone else,is in America d. they will never accept that "only Christians can be assyrians"...if it is an ethnicity, then it is an ethnicity and not a religious sect. e. after all of that, why would Iraq grant any special status or rights to "assyrians"? In truth the entire country is "theirs", so why focus on just this small corner? To Iraqis, and the rest of the world as well, our assyrians are nothing more than Iraqi Christians trying to fool someone into thinking they are something else, something "more"....Iraq, and other nations in the region, will never, absolutely never, grant them any special anything...and, further, whenever they engage in such activities as street rallies or appeals to parliament, or publish such ravings, they will be guilty of and prosecuted, not persecuted, for sedition...or, if in time of war, for treason...as would happen in any nation on earth. Christians of Iraq are welcome to be Iraqis and enjoy all the rights and liberties granted any other Iraqis, period. Anything beyond that has only and will only get them nothing but trouble. --------------------- |
